Elliott, Maurice Slater

June 29th, 1937 - December 8, 2016

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of a brother, husband, father, grandpop, friend, mentor, colleague and educator. Born in England to Tom and Nora; he is survived by his brother, Peter. Maurice died peacefully in Stouffville Ontario, his wife of 54 years, Carole at his side. He leaves behind children, Adam, Giles, Lucy and John (Valleau); six wonderful grandchildren Ginger, Maxwell, Sam, Slater, Carolyn, Jack; and many friends. In 1961, as a graduate from Cambridge University he immigrated to Canada, and had a long and distinguished career that ended at York University. Sharing his love of good food, wine and his passion for the written word with others was second only to the love for his family. He will be greatly missed in person, but fondly remembered in spirit. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 15 at the United Church in Stouffville at 11 am. Reception to follow across the street at O'Neill Funeral Home. Many thanks to all of the staff at Parkview Nursing Home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to https://www.multiplesystematrophy.org/about-msa/differential-diagnosis

As his good friend Seamus Heaney said “I believe we are put here to improve civilization”.
Maurice certainly did that.
